The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced its readiness to form alliances with other political parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the NNPP’s National Chairman, made this declaration during the campaign launch for the party’s Ondo State governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, in Akure.
Ahmed accused the APC of meddling in the affairs of opposition parties to weaken their structures, aiming to retain power beyond the 2027 elections. He stressed the NNPP’s determination to stand strong against these tactics and unite with other opposition parties to ensure a robust challenge against the ruling party.
“The APC is doing everything it can in order to win the 2027 general election,” Ahmed stated, emphasizing the ruling party’s alleged interference. “Certainly, there is evidence everywhere that they are interfering in other parties, but it is left to the other political parties to maintain their integrity and ensure they remain one and viable opposition to the APC before and after the 2027 election.”
Ahmed further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a fair playing field for all parties participating in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for November 16th. He emphasized the importance of a transparent process, saying, “The ruling APC should be prepared to hand over power after President Bola Tinubu’s government.”
He also highlighted the NNPP’s willingness to form a coalition with other parties. “NNPP has been in collaboration with opposition parties to form an alliance ahead of the 2027 poll. We have our doors open in such a way that if there is going to be a coalition of all the political parties to go into the election, we are ready for that,” Ahmed said.

As he addressed Ondo State voters, Ahmed urged them to participate actively in the electoral process. He called on voters to support the NNPP candidate and to ensure that their votes count. “Edema is a party loyalist whose programmes and policies for the people of the state would put an end to the economic crisis and current hardship caused by the government of the APC,” he said, positioning the NNPP as a solution to the state’s challenges.
Olugbenga Edema, the NNPP’s candidate for the governorship, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the election. He criticized recent electoral practices, referencing alleged manipulation during the Edo State elections. Edema highlighted the importance of transparency in the voting process and reassured voters of the NNPP’s commitment to safeguarding their votes.
“The last one happened in Edo State with the fraud. How they went to all the collation centres and manipulated the results of the election that were sent from the polling units was worrisome,” Edema remarked. He expressed confidence that the Ondo electorate would not allow similar actions to occur in their state.
“Ondo State is not Edo State. Ondo is not Lagos State. The people of Ondo are one of the most enlightened in the whole country, and we are capable of protecting our votes, and we will protect it. We do not fear them. We will dare them,” Edema asserted, promising a strong fight for fair election outcomes in Ondo.
