Police in Lagos have detained a hotel manager in Dopemu after the death of a woman who visited the establishment with an unidentified man. The incident has prompted an investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the woman’s passing and to identify the man involved.
The Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, detailing the events that unfolded on Friday night. According to Hundeyin, the manager of the hotel alerted the Dopemu Police Division at about 10:10 p.m., reporting the situation.
The incident began earlier that evening when a man arrived at the hotel with a woman around 9:30 p.m., requesting a short stay. According to Hundeyin, “The manager reported that after an hour, the woman rushed out, claiming she felt hot, and he provided her with cold water to drink.”
Despite being given the water, the woman’s condition did not improve. The hotel staff then took her to a nearby hospital on Dopemu Road, where she later died. The man who had accompanied her to the hotel fled the scene before any further information could be gathered.
“The manager said the woman still did not feel better and was later taken to a hospital on Dopemu Road, where she subsequently passed away, while the man who brought her to the hotel fled,” SP Hundeyin explained.

The hotel manager is currently in police custody to aid in the investigation, as authorities work to determine what led to the woman’s sudden illness and death. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
Hundeyin emphasized that the police are focused on identifying the deceased and tracking down the man who brought her to the hotel. “An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death, identify the deceased, and apprehend the man who brought her to the hotel,” he said.
This incident has raised questions about the hotel’s management practices, particularly concerning the failure to record the identities of the guests involved. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information that could assist in solving the case to come forward.
