The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended four members of the deadly ‘Shila’ gang, a criminal group responsible for terrorizing residents in Yola, the state capital. The arrests were part of renewed efforts by the police to curb criminal activities across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests in a press statement released on Thursday. He revealed that the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday at Geriyo Junction, Jambutu, in Yola-North Local Government Area.

“The suspects, identified as Sadiq Usman, 20; Abba Ibrahim, 18; Abdul Jibrin, 20; and Labaran Muhammed, 20, were arrested around 2 a.m. at Geriyo Junction. Upon searching them, police found dangerous weapons, including a dagger and a knife. The suspects were also caught smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp,” SP Nguroje stated.

He added that the arrests followed multiple complaints from residents about incidents of robbery and theft in the area. These arrests are part of the police command’s ongoing efforts to rid the community of criminal elements.

“The suspects are currently in police custody for further investigations, and we expect more recoveries as the investigation progresses,” Nguroje explained.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Dankombo Morris, also reassured the public that the police are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. He emphasized that the police will continue to intensify efforts to make Yola and the entire state safe for everyone.

“Our strategies are working, and we will keep up the pressure to ensure that criminal activities are drastically reduced. The safety of the people remains our top priority,” Commissioner Morris said.

Residents of Yola have expressed relief following the arrests, with many hoping for an end to the constant threat posed by the ‘Shila’ gang. The gang has been known for robbery and other violent activities, causing fear among local communities.

With the suspects now in police custody, the Adamawa State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining law and order in the state.
