Joy Kelvin, a sex worker early Monday morning in the Jakande Housing Estate of Lekki, Lagos State, allegedly stabbed a 48-year-old man named Okafor. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m., following a night spent together at Okafor’s home.
According to sources, the conflict erupted the next morning when Joy demanded her service fee, but Okafor reportedly did not pay the amount they had agreed upon. A police source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, explained, “Okafor brought the sex worker home the night earlier. She demanded her fee when he was leaving in the morning, but Okafor did not give her what they agreed. This led to an argument, and Joy reached for a sharp object and stabbed him. Okafor became unconscious after the attack and later died.”
The situation escalated quickly, and Okafor’s friend became aware of the incident after receiving a call about the stabbing. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the details. He stated, “Today, October 7, 2024, at approximately 07:20 hours, a complainant reported at the Ilasan Division that earlier that day at about 05:32 hours, he received a call from a friend stating that Okafor, a 48-year-old male and also his friend, was stabbed in his house at Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, by Joy Kelvin, a female prostitute he had brought home overnight.”

Following the report, police detectives quickly responded to the scene. Hundeyin added, “The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. Detectives from the division promptly visited the scene, took photographs, evacuated the corpse, and deposited it at the General Hospital morgue, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.”
The police have since arrested Joy Kelvin and are currently working to locate Okafor’s family members. Hundeyin concluded the statement by noting, “The investigation is ongoing,” emphasizing that authorities are taking the matter seriously as they gather more information about the incident.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers present in volatile situations and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by individuals in vulnerable professions.
