A tragic incident unfolded at the Church of the Brethren (EYN) Moduganari in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday when Reverend Alaku Vincent suddenly collapsed and died during a child dedication ceremony. The shocking event left church members in deep mourning and disbelief.
According to reports on social media, Pastor Vincent was leading the dedication when he suddenly slumped and lost consciousness. Church members quickly attempted to revive him, but their efforts were in vain. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The exact cause of his death remains officially unconfirmed.
Reverend Vincent was known as a dedicated pastor and a beloved figure in his community. Many took to social media to express their grief over his unexpected passing. Timothy Hammajam, the District Church Secretary of Church Brethren of Nigeria, posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, describing Vincent as “a visionary leader with focus.” He noted, “KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will ever miss your elderly and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”

Another church member, Prince Malikson Papaman, shared his sorrow on Facebook, recalling how just hours before, Vincent confidently stood on the altar, passionately guiding his congregation. “His powerful message still resonates in my mind, as he emphasized the importance of family unity in worship. Little did I know it would be his final sermon,” Papaman wrote.
He reflected on the profound impact Vincent had on his life and the lives of many others, stating that the pastor’s departure leaves an “unfillable void” in the church community. “Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Vincent Alaku. Until we meet again,” he concluded.
