The Action Peoples Party (APP) has emerged victorious in 22 out of the 23 local government areas (LGAs) in the Rivers State local government election held on Saturday. The results were officially declared by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) after the collation process was completed.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), the Chairman of RSIEC, announced the results at the RSIEC office in Port Harcourt. He stated, “The chairmanship candidates of APP have won in 22 LGAs.” He added that the results for the Etche Local Government Area and the 319 councillorship positions would be made public once the collation was concluded.
The election took place in 6,866 units across the state, with 18 political parties participating. Justice Enebeli praised the political parties and the people of Rivers State for their dedication to the election process. “The process was smooth, safe, free, fair, credible, and transparent,” he noted, emphasizing that the election was peaceful and one of the most successful council polls conducted in the state.
Despite some challenges, the RSIEC Chairman expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, highlighting the lack of violence. “It was a violence-free election, which is a significant achievement for us,” Enebeli said.

The following APP candidates were declared winners in their respective local government areas:
- Abua/Odual: Vincent Reuben Obu
- Ahoada-East: Chibudom Ezu
- Ahoada-West: Iyekor Ikporo
- Akuku-Toru: Mrs. Tonye Oniyide
- Andoni: Lazarus Gogote Nteogwuile
- Asari-Toru: Dr. Sule Amachree
- Bonny: Dame Anengi Barasua
- Degema: Dr. Harry Agiriye
- Eleme: Chief Brain Gokpa
- Emohua: David Omereji
- Gokana: Monday Dumiye
- Ikwerre: Israel Abosi
- Khana: Martins Nwigbo
- Obio/Akpor: Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo
- Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni: Prince Isaac Umejuru
- Ogu/Bolo: Ishmael Oforibika
- Okrika: Dr. Igwe Achese
- Omuma: Promise Reginald
- Opobo/Nkoro: Enyiada Cookey-Gam

Ongoing Results for Etche LGA and Councillorship Positions
While results for the majority of the LGAs were announced, the outcome for Etche LGA is still pending, along with the 319 councillorship positions across the state. The RSIEC has promised to make these results available once the final collation is complete.
The APP’s success in the Rivers local government election has been met with praise for the electoral commission’s efforts in ensuring a fair process. Despite the challenges faced during the election, RSIEC’s handling of the election has been commended by various stakeholders in the state.
