Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Mogaji has shared her thoughts on motherhood, marriage, and the societal pressures women face, encouraging single women over the age of 35 to consider having children, whether or not they are married. In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress discussed her experiences and offered advice to women who are concerned about becoming mothers later in life.
Mogaji, who became a mother at the age of 40, emphasized that women should not wait for marriage to experience the joys of motherhood if they desire children. “Once you’re 35 or older and you don’t have a husband, but there’s someone in your life who is with you but not ready for marriage, and he wants a child, have a child with him, even if he won’t accept responsibility for the child,” Mogaji advised.
She highlighted the importance of prioritizing motherhood over societal expectations, urging women to take control of their lives and decisions. According to Mogaji, societal pressures often leave women in difficult situations, especially when they reach their mid-thirties and are still unmarried.
“When a woman is looking for a husband at 35, they’ll say she’s too old and won’t be able to wash clothes for her mother-in-law or be controlled,” Mogaji remarked, reflecting on the criticisms older single women often face in society. She added that people often advise men to marry younger women, which can put additional pressure on women in their thirties.
Mogaji pointed out the challenges women face when trying to marry later in life. “Even if she’s fortunate to marry at that age, she’ll already be old when her child grows up. Some people at 45 or 50 are already grandmothers,” she said, stressing the need for women to think about their future and the potential joy of motherhood without waiting for societal approval.
The actress also encouraged women to consider adoption if they are unable to find a partner. “If you want a child and cannot find a man to impregnate you, then consider adoption,” she advised.

Mogaji’s message is a call for women to make independent choices about their lives and futures, without being bound by societal norms. She emphasized that motherhood is a blessing that should not be delayed due to the lack of a marital partner.
“If you find someone you like, ask him to impregnate you as long as you want a child and can take care of the child,” Mogaji added, suggesting that women should not be afraid to pursue motherhood on their terms.
Her candid advice has sparked discussions about the role of women in society and the expectations placed on them, particularly in relation to marriage and childbearing. Mogaji’s perspective reflects the growing sentiment among many women who believe that personal fulfillment, including motherhood, should not be dictated by traditional societal timelines.
