Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has reignited his longstanding rivalry with fellow Nigerian artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. The latest clash, which erupted on social media, has sparked a fresh wave of reactions from fans and celebrities, intensifying the ongoing tension between the two music icons.
The dispute resurfaced on Tuesday after Davido teased a snippet of his upcoming single for 2024. Coincidentally, Wizkid had also planned to drop the first track from his much-anticipated “Morayo” album on the same day. Tensions flared when Davido’s associate, Kayode Yajaur, better known as Black Tycoone, appeared to mock Wizkid’s delayed album release. He took to X (formerly Twitter) and tweeted, “Tell your Daddy to drop an album already,” seemingly taking a dig at the “Essence” singer.
In response, Wizkid fired back with a pointed comment directed at Davido’s camp, writing, “P***y boys dropping mid again,” and adding, “Una don tire! Make una go rest small!” Although Wizkid didn’t directly mention Davido, fans were quick to interpret the post as a clear jab at the “Fem” singer.
The drama quickly escalated when a fan accused Wizkid of stirring up the rivalry to boost his music’s sales. The fan tweeted, “So if you no beef @davido, your song won’t sell?” Wizkid wasted no time in clapping back, declaring, “I don’t beef wack niggas! We all know he’s wack! No talent!”
Wizkid continued his tirade, dismissing Davido’s entire music catalog as “trash” and boasting about his own musical dominance. “80 trash! We got 80 albums for any song y’all drop! P***y boys!” he tweeted, leaving fans buzzing with speculation.
Despite Wizkid’s relentless comments, Davido has remained silent, refusing to engage in the public feud. However, fans of both artists have been actively weighing in on the controversy. Some speculate that Wizkid’s fiery remarks may have been prompted by Davido’s recent high-profile performance at the UBA anniversary event in the United States, where Davido entertained guests and posed with billionaire Tony Elumelu. Wizkid, a UBA brand ambassador, was notably absent from the event, leading to further speculation about the root of the tension.

On social media, reactions have been mixed. Some fans criticized Wizkid for reigniting the rivalry, while others viewed it as a promotional stunt for his upcoming album. A user with the handle @Rswagger03 tweeted, “Just beg us to promote your songs… beefing with elemi9+ won’t help your dead career or better still… ask Tems for help again,” referring to Wizkid’s collaboration with singer Tems.
Another fan, @Amaruskills, downplayed Wizkid’s comments, suggesting that the artist was trying to remain in the spotlight. “Lol, fame don dey fade, he don start to dey talk small small make dem no forget am,” the fan wrote, implying that Wizkid was attempting to stay relevant by stirring up controversy.
This isn’t the first time Wizkid and Davido have clashed. In May, Wizkid mocked both Davido and Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy, referring to Don Jazzy as an “influencer” and sharing a video of Davido kneeling and pleading for new music. The rivalry between the two Afrobeats heavyweights has been a topic of discussion for years, with both artists enjoying massive success and loyal fan bases.
