Garba Ahmed, Yobe State Commissioner of Police
A police inspector in Yobe State, Inspector Mohammed Bulama, is under investigation after allegedly stabbing a man to death following a heated argument. The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, which occurred in Damaturu, the state capital, on September 29, 2024.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, it was revealed that the dispute between Bulama, 38, and the victim, Abdulmalik Dauda, also known as Baksha, 39, escalated into a physical altercation. The altercation took place around 6:20 p.m. in the Zango Area of Damaturu, reportedly over an unresolved transaction.
“The argument between Inspector Bulama and Dauda turned violent, leading to Bulama allegedly stabbing Dauda in the chest. Bulama also sustained injuries to his head during the fight,” Abdulkarim said.
Following the incident, Bulama fled to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Damaturu, where he sought refuge. He was immediately arrested, and the Yobe State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case. The officer is currently in custody pending further investigation, internal disciplinary measures, and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, strongly condemned Bulama’s actions and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. He assured the public that the investigation would be conducted swiftly and thoroughly to ensure that justice is served.
“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any misconduct from its personnel. We will ensure that justice is served, and the perpetrator is held accountable for his actions,” Ahmed stated.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community in Damaturu, where Dauda, a resident of Pompomari Ward, was well-known. The police have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues, promising that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice.
Inspector Mohammed Bulama remains in police custody as investigators from the state CID work to gather all necessary evidence related to the case. The Yobe State Police Command has assured the public that they are committed to transparency and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
