Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has implemented significant changes, including a 10 per cent reduction in tuition fees at Ebonyi State University.
Thi spokesperson to the governor, Monday Uzor revealed this during the 12th to 15th combined convocation ceremony of the institution on Sunday.
Governor Nwifuru has approved a 20 per cent increment in salaries for academic staff and a 10 per cent increment for non-academic staff of the university. These adjustments aim to enhance the welfare of university employees and promote academic excellence.

Furthermore, the governor declared that state indigenes graduating with first-class degrees will receive automatic employment as graduate assistant lecturers. However, it remains uncertain if similar opportunities will be extended to graduates from other institutions.
To boost the university’s operations and facilitate its growth, Governor Nwifuru increased the monthly subvention from N200 million to N280 million. This financial boost is intended to uplift the morale of university staff and foster educational advancement within the state.
During his address at the convocation ceremony, Governor Nwifuru emphasised the importance of utilizing acquired skills to contribute to the state’s development and the nation at large. He encouraged graduates to seek local solutions to local challenges before seeking external aid.
Governor Nwifuru urged the graduating students to leverage their knowledge to address societal issues, emphasising the significance of applying acquired skills effectively. He emphasized the need for graduates to serve as progressive ambassadors and catalysts for positive change in their communities.
In his remarks, the governor underscored the importance of graduates deploying homegrown solutions to tackle prevalent issues, highlighting their role as problem solvers in the country. He expressed confidence in their ability to manoeuvre challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development.
