Governor Mutfwang Denies Defection to APC, Calls It “Orchestrated Falsehood”

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State

Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has denied rumors circulating on social media that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor’s aide, Gyang Bere, issued a statement on Friday dismissing the claims as a “baseless rumor” and an “orchestrated falsehood” created by political detractors.

The rumors began spreading after a banner featuring Mutfwang’s image and suggesting his defection to the APC appeared on social media platforms. However, Bere, who serves as the director of press and public affairs for the governor, emphasized that Mutfwang remains committed to the PDP and has not authorized anyone to create or circulate such materials.

“This orchestrated falsehood, crafted by certain individuals and executed by mischief-makers, is aimed at creating division between the governor and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as his dedicated supporters in Plateau State,” Bere said in the statement.

He added that the governor has no intention of leaving the PDP, the party he firmly believes in and through which the people of Plateau entrusted him with leadership.

The governor’s office felt compelled to respond to the rumors despite considering them insignificant.

Bere explained, “While this baseless rumor does not warrant a formal response, it has become necessary to dispel any misconceptions that may mislead the public and to preserve the governor’s integrity.”

Mutfwang’s aide made it clear that the governor acknowledges the strong connection between the people of Plateau and the PDP, stating that the party remains the “trusted political platform for leadership” in the state.

The suggestion that Mutfwang is considering leaving the PDP for the APC is, according to Bere, entirely false.

In his statement, Bere urged the public to ignore the efforts of those attempting to damage the governor’s reputation for selfish political gain. He stressed that Mutfwang is focused on fulfilling his responsibilities as governor and upholding the values of the PDP, which he views as central to his leadership.
