Nigerian Army troops have killed four terrorists and rescued 20 hostages in separate operations across Kaduna State, according to a statement released on Wednesday. The successful missions highlight ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
The Army stated that on September 17, 2024, soldiers intercepted terrorists attempting to cross from Alawa Forest in Niger State to Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops set up an ambush and engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight. The clash resulted in the death of two terrorists, while others managed to escape.
Following the confrontation, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and three motorcycles left behind by the fleeing terrorists.
In another operation on the same day, troops received information about the movement of terrorists in Hayin Nakwakina village, Giwa local government area of Kaduna State. Once again, they laid an ambush and successfully killed two more terrorists. The soldiers also recovered two motorcycles, a mobile phone, and machetes that were abandoned by the retreating terrorists.
The Nigerian Army’s swift response continued with a third operation that led to the rescue of 20 kidnap victims. The hostages were abducted along the Kwaga-Pole wire axis of Birnin Gwari local government area but were freed after the troops overwhelmed the terrorists in a shootout. “The troops successfully rescued the abductees after a shootout that overwhelmed the terrorists, compelling them to succumb and run for their lives,” the Army stated.
All 20 hostages have since been reunited with their families, bringing relief to the affected communities.
The Army also expressed its gratitude to the public for their continued support and cooperation. “We appreciate the credible information provided by the public to assist our operations and remain committed to curbing terrorism, insurgency, and other forms of economic sabotage in the country,” the statement added.
These operations are part of the Army’s broader strategy to restore peace and security in Kaduna and other regions plagued by terrorist activities.
