A newborn baby girl was found abandoned beside a car on a street in the Yar Akwa area of Naibawa community in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State over the weekend. The infant was discovered by a group of men who were relaxing at a nearby tea joint and heard her crying.
One of the eyewitnesses, Shamsuddeen Sabiu, recounted the moment they realized it was not a cat mewing but a baby in need.
“Initially, we thought it was a cat mewing, but when we rushed to the spot, we saw two security men, who had already rescued the baby and asked us to lead them to the house of the ward head because they were new in the area, which we did,” Sabiu explained.
The baby was found with clothes and diapers, indicating that the mother might have taken some care in preparing to abandon her. The Ward Head of Yar Akwa, Jamilu Abba Danladi, confirmed that the baby was brought to him and expressed his gratitude that she was found alive and healthy.
“I thank God that the baby was found alive and in good health,” Danladi said, reflecting the community’s relief and concern for the child’s well-being.
The community has since rallied around the ward head to provide for the infant, with many residents offering support and assistance.
Danladi also appealed to the community for continued prayers and support to ensure the baby girl’s well-being as they work to provide her with the necessary care.
The circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the baby are currently under investigation. Authorities in Kano State are making efforts to identify the mother and understand the reasons behind her decision to leave the child.
This incident has raised concerns about the increasing cases of child abandonment in the state. Community members and authorities alike are worried about the growing trend and are calling for more awareness and support systems to prevent such heartbreaking situations in the future.
