The Federal Government has announced a significant recruitment initiative aimed at strengthening the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force, as part of broader efforts to enhance national security.
President Bola Tinubu made this announcement on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of 478 cadets from the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event, emphasized the commitment of the government to providing the police with modern equipment and resources necessary to effectively perform their duties.
Emphasizing the importance of involving young Nigerians in the country’s security operations, Tinubu stated, “We are embarking on a massive recruitment drive into the Police Force aimed at empowering our youth to participate in national security efforts.”
In his address, President Tinubu urged the new officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to strictly adhere to the ethics of modern policing. He expressed confidence that the training the cadets received at the academy, both academically and professionally, had prepared them to make a substantial impact on Nigeria’s security landscape.
Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to strengthening the institution, Tinubu said, “The Federal Government will continue to support this academy, which is one of the best training grounds for police officers in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
He also called on the graduates to prioritize the nation’s interests in their service, highlighting the importance of vigilance, integrity, and effective service delivery.
Tinubu reminded the new officers, “As you graduate today, you are not just receiving a certificate, but also becoming ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Service. Your actions will reflect on the institution and the nation as a whole.”
Tinubu’s message was clear: the new police officers are expected to serve with honor, dignity, and respect for all Nigerians. “Go forth and serve with honour, dignity, and respect for all Nigerians,” he urged the graduates, stressing the critical role they would play in the nation’s law enforcement.
Earlier in the ceremony, the Commandant of the Academy, Assistant Inspector General Sadiq Abubakar, highlighted the rigorous training the 478 graduates had undergone. He noted that the cadets had been well-prepared with the essential knowledge and skills needed to contribute positively to the country’s security.
Commending the Federal Government for its substantial investment in the training of the new officers, Abubakar said, “In line with the college’s high standards, 17 programs offered by the academy have been accredited by the National Universities Commission.”
The graduation ceremony not only marked the end of the cadets’ training but also the beginning of their careers as key players in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order. With the promise of more modern resources and a fresh wave of recruits, the Nigeria Police Force is expected to strengthen its capacity to address the country’s security challenges effectively.
