The Special Forces from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have killed a notorious terrorist leader, Mustapha Abdullahi, along with several of his followers, in a fierce gun battle in Kaduna State. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to rid the region of criminal elements.
The NAF’s 413 Force Protection Group launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports on August 31, 2024. The reports indicated that Abdullahi and five members of his group were spotted near the Sabon Gida Forest along Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The terrorists were believed to be planning an attack on innocent civilians, likely aiming to kidnap, harm, or kill local residents.
Edward Gabkwet, NAF’s spokesperson, confirmed the successful operation in a statement released on Sunday.
“Upon receiving the intelligence report, a team of Special Forces was immediately dispatched to comb the forest and neutralize the threat. When the terrorists, who were on motorcycles, saw the Special Forces, they opened fire. However, they were met with superior firepower from our troops, leading to the elimination of all the terrorists involved,” Gabkwet said.
The operation not only neutralized the immediate threat but also resulted in the recovery of significant weapons and other items from the terrorists. Among the recovered items were five Dane guns, locally fabricated sub-machine guns, live ammunition, assorted charms, lighters, SIM cards, and phone cases.
Gabkwet emphasized that the efforts to secure the areas of Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and surrounding regions from criminal activities are ongoing. He commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to continue their efforts to safeguard lives and property.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians, especially in areas prone to terrorist activities,” Gabkwet added.
This successful operation marks another step in the Nigerian military’s broader campaign to eliminate terrorist groups in the country, particularly in the volatile northern regions. With continued vigilance and action, the NAF and other security forces aim to restore peace and stability to communities plagued by terrorism.
