Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, has criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that it is paying more for fuel subsidies than previous administrations.
Speaking at a workshop in Maiduguri, El-Rufai urged Tinubu to be humble enough to reverse policies that are not working and to replace underperforming appointees.
“The federal government is back now subsidizing fuel. Many people don’t know about this. If they want to know, they should compare the price of petrol and diesel,” El-Rufai said, highlighting the discrepancies in fuel pricing.
El-Rufai emphasized the need for policy pragmatism, stating, “Leadership is work in progress. You make a policy and you start to implement it, and it doesn’t seem to work well, you should have the humility to stand back and say this is not working.”
Regarding Tinubu’s administration, El-Rufai emphasized that it is too early to judge, but urged continuous assessment and adjustment of policies based on their effectiveness.
The workshop, organized by the Borno State government, aimed to enhance the skills of government officials in policy implementation and human resource management.
