Zainab Jummain Ado Bayero

Princess Zainab Jummai Ado Bayero, daughter of the late 13th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has publicly expressed her gratitude to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for stepping in to prevent her family’s eviction from their apartment in Lagos. The princess, her mother, and her brother were on the brink of losing their home due to unpaid bills, prompting her to seek help through the media.

In response, Governor Yusuf intervened and settled their debts, providing temporary relief to the family. “I’m grateful,” Princess Zainab said, acknowledging that the governor was the only person who answered her plea when their situation became public. However, she made it clear that their challenges are far from over and that they still need ongoing support.

“We need a home, financial independence, and to get my brother back to school,” she pleaded. Zainab emphasized that the governor, being a strong advocate of education, could play a vital role in resolving their situation.

The princess shared that it was difficult for her to go public with her family’s plight, as it meant setting aside her pride. “Even though I am a princess and certain things are required of me, I’m also human. It took a lot to set my pride aside and seek the assistance of the Governor in the media,” she said.

She explained that her love for her mother compelled her to act, as she couldn’t bear to see her in a situation that could jeopardize her health. “A daughter’s love is what compelled me to do this,” she added.

Princess Zainab also touched on the complexities of being part of a royal family, particularly in a polygamous setting. She hinted at the difficulties they have faced since her father’s death, which have now spanned ten years. “A lot of people will judge and make assumptions about why myself, my mom, and my brother would be in such a situation, as kids of one of the most powerful and wealthiest monarchs in Nigerian history. It’s a complex story that involves the pitfalls of being royal and being a part of a polygamous home,” she said.

In her statement, Zainab expressed hope that Governor Yusuf would continue to assist them and bring an end to their ongoing struggles. “As the governor of the state, he is responsible for the citizens of Kano, and he is also part of the Kano Royal home,” she noted, appealing for his continued support to secure their future.
