The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially opened online portals for school recognition and the upload of Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) in preparation for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This move is crucial for schools that wish to present candidates for the upcoming exams.

In a statement released on Monday, WAEC announced that the portal for school recognition will be accessible from September 2, 2024, to December 13, 2024. Schools must complete their recognition process within this timeframe to be eligible to present candidates for the 2025 WASSCE.

The statement, which was referenced as BN/ZC/MOE/15/VOL.2/139, was signed by Mr. A. Adebolu, Head of Exams for the Branch Controller.

It was addressed to school principals and titled “WASSCE (SC) 2025: OPENING OF ONLINE PORTALS FOR SCHOOL RECOGNITION AND UPLOAD OF CASS 1 & 2.”

Mr. Adebolu emphasized the importance of adhering to the deadlines, stating, “All schools seeking approval for WASSCE (SC) 2025 are advised to make the appropriate payments and complete their application process within this period.”

Additionally, the CASS 1 & 2 upload portal will be open from September 2, 2024, to December 20, 2024. WAEC has urged all schools presenting candidates to upload their CASS data before the portal closes.

The statement clearly warned, “The portals will close at midnight on the due dates, and no further requests will be entertained after the closure.”

This announcement comes shortly after the release of the 2024/25 WAEC results. According to a report by PUNCH Online, out of the 1,805,216 candidates who sat for the exam, 1,332,089 received credits in five subjects, including either Mathematics or English language. Meanwhile, 1,301,949 candidates earned credits in five subjects, including both Mathematics and English language, accounting for 72.9 percent of the total candidates.

However, this year’s results marked a 7.6 percent decrease in performance compared to the 2023 WASSCE. Furthermore, WAEC withheld the results of 215,267 candidates due to examination malpractice, representing 11.92 percent of the total number of candidates.

The online WAEC portals for school recognition and CASS uploads are vital steps in ensuring that all candidates are properly registered and assessed. Schools are strongly encouraged to comply with the deadlines to avoid any disruptions in their students’ participation in the exams.
