FC Barcelona has officially signed Spanish forward Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, bringing the La Masia graduate back to his roots.
The transfer marks a significant move for Barcelona, as Olmo, who trained at the club’s renowned academy, returns to the Camp Nou after a successful stint abroad. Olmo will stay with the club for the next six seasons, with a buyout clause set at 500 million euros.
Expressing his joy at the return, Olmo said, “I’m happy to be back home.” The 25-year-old forward spoke to the club’s media, emphasizing his excitement about rejoining the team and highlighting the strong winning mentality he plans to bring to the squad. “This team has incredible quality,” he added.
Olmo’s journey back to Barcelona has been marked by significant achievements. After leaving La Masia, he first joined Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, where he developed into one of Europe’s most promising talents.
During his time in Croatia, Olmo won five league titles, three Croatian Cups, and a Croatian Super Cup. His performances earned him the title of Croatian Player of the Year twice. He also made his debut in the UEFA Champions League while at Dinamo Zagreb, attracting attention from top clubs across Europe.
In 2020, Olmo’s impressive form led to a move to RB Leipzig in Germany. Over four seasons in the Bundesliga, he continued to shine, winning the German Cup twice and the German Super Cup, where he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich. Olmo’s time in Germany cemented his reputation as a versatile and skilled forward.
On the international stage, Olmo has also made his mark. After representing Spain at various youth levels, he debuted for the senior national team during the Euro 2020 qualifiers, scoring in his first appearance.
Since then, he has played in the Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal, participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and most recently, excelled in the Euro 2024 tournament. Olmo was the top scorer for Spain in Euro 2024, netting three goals as the team went on to win the championship.
Known for his versatility, Olmo can play in multiple positions on the pitch. Whether on the flanks, as a central striker, or even in midfield, he offers valuable options to his team. His risk-taking approach, individual talent, and strong ability to link up with teammates have made him a standout player. His knack for finding the back of the net, both from inside and outside the penalty area, further adds to his value.
Barcelona fans are eager to see how Olmo will fit into the team’s lineup under the current management. His return is seen as a homecoming for a player who has grown and developed abroad, bringing back a wealth of experience and success to the club where it all began. As Olmo embarks on this new chapter with Barcelona, the club and its supporters have high hopes for what he will bring to the team over the next six years.
