The Kano State Police Command, on Tuesday, announced the arrest of a notorious armed robber and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles along with 47 rounds of live ammunition. The police also recovered N4,986,000 from the suspect.
The arrest occurred after a resident of Yandadi Village, Kunchi Local Government Area (LGA), reported a robbery incident. The resident stated that armed robbers had attacked his home and stolen N15,000,000.
Kano State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the details in a press statement. “On Monday, at about 2:00 a.m., a resident of Yandadi Village reported that armed robbers stormed his residence, attacked him, and robbed him of fifteen million naira,” he said.
Despite the challenges posed by ongoing nationwide protests, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, directed a team of detectives to conduct intelligence-led patrols to apprehend the culprits and recover their weapons. “The team successfully arrested the principal suspect, Hassan Iliya, 35 years old, of Alhazawa Village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State, at about 6:00 am while he was attempting to escape on a motorcycle,” Haruna added.
During an on-the-spot search, police discovered a sack containing two AK-47 rifles and 47 rounds of live ammunition. The investigation is still ongoing to uncover more details and potential accomplices.
CP Garba urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid actions that could incite violence. He emphasized the importance of patriotism and cooperation with law enforcement to maintain peace and security in the community.
The successful operation demonstrates that the Kano State Police Command is committed to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents despite the challenging circumstances.
