The Kano State Police Command has begun a house-to-house search to recover items stolen during the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest in Kano.
Initially peaceful, the protest was hijacked by suspected hoodlums who looted stores, houses, and government establishments, including the not-yet-inaugurated office of the Nigerian Communication Commission. They took away furniture, electronic items, and more, and also vandalized streetlights and public decorations.
In response to the looting spree, the police arrested over 400 suspects and recovered some of the stolen items. Social media user Sa’adatu Baba Ahmad reported that police stormed the Yakasai and Durumin Zungura areas in Kano Municipal to retrieve stolen goods on Friday.
She wrote, “Since 10:30 am, looted items are being recovered from the houses of people who stole property of the government and innocent people in the name of protest. Up till now, they are there invading the houses.”

At a briefing earlier on Friday, the Kano Police Command reiterated its commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the mayhem to justice.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that those responsible for the chaos during the protest are held accountable,” said a spokesperson for the command.
The police operations aim to restore order and recover as many stolen items as possible. The continued search efforts highlight the authorities’ determination to address the aftermath of the looting and ensure the safety and security of residents and their property.
