The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 32 people for allegedly breaking into and looting shops during protests against bad governance and hunger in Kano.
NSCDC’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Thursday. He said the suspects were apprehended by personnel from the Fagge Divisional Office at various locations, including Sabon Gari, Bata, France Road, and Murtala Mohammed Way.
“The suspects were found with stolen goods worth thousands of Naira, which have since been recovered by the authorities,” Abdullahi said. He added that the operatives, with the help of good Samaritans, seized several items alleged to have been stolen by hoodlums during the protests at State and Iyaka Roads in the Gyadi Gyadi area of Kano.

Abdullahi stated that an investigation into the case has begun and that legal actions will follow upon its completion.
The looting occurred under the guise of protests, with miscreants breaking into stores and stealing foodstuffs and other items. The protesters also vandalized public and private property, leading to significant damage.
In response to the unrest, the Kano State Government imposed a 24-hour curfew to restore order.
