The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced that there is no official date set for the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. Students and parents are advised to remain patient as they await further updates from WAEC.
WAEC Communication Officer Moyosola Adesina addressed the issue, stating that the reported August 5 release date is “unofficial.” She explained, “It could be released before the said date and may even be after. The August 5 date was not verified from the appropriate quarters.”
Adesina emphasized that results are typically released within 45 days after the last paper is conducted. “If you calculate this in variation to August 5 – it’s not up to 45 days. That date they are putting there has not been verified or confirmed by WAEC. The report didn’t come from us. The person speculated, so it’s neither here nor there. It could be before then or after then but definitely might not be on that date,” she added.

An examiner, Mr. Jamiu Abubakar, clarified that the coordination and marking exercise was just completed. “The grading activities and return of scripts to WAEC offices ended on Sunday. So, all things equal, the release of the result could be anytime from now – probably in the first weeks of August. You know we may need to factor in the August 1 protest should it hold,” he said.
In a previous report, WAEC had announced that the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates commenced on April 30, 2024. In March 2022, WAEC mentioned that the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) had reduced the processing period for WASSCE results from 84 days to 45 days.
The examination ended on June 24, 2024, with the subject Wood Work, making August 8 the 45th day since the exam concluded.
