The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 59-year-old herbalist, Kehinde Ganiyu, for killing his close friend and using his throat for a money ritual. The incident occurred on July 9, 2024, in Oba-oke town.
Ganiyu admitted to the crime, explaining that he used a sharp knife to slit the throat of his friend, Emmanuel Collins, while he was asleep. Ganiyu then dried the throat for three days before burning it in a clay pot with ritual materials. He mixed the burnt remains with soap to create a substance for a money ritual, known as “Osole” in Yoruba.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, described the act as “wicked and callous.”
She stated, “The suspect was apprehended after intelligence information was received by the Divisional Police Officer, Oke-Odo Division, Osogbo, regarding the murder of a 35-year-old man.”

Opalola confirmed Ganiyu’s confession, saying, “He slaughtered the deceased with a kitchen knife and removed his throat. He then took the dried throat to a bush called Igbo Imese Aiwosi Area in Oba-Oke village, where he burned it in a clay pot with ritual materials and mixed the burnt powder with soap for a money ritual.”
The police assured the public that Ganiyu would face justice. “After the investigations, the suspect will be charged to court to know his fate,” Opalola concluded.
