A Nigerian man, Anthony Esan, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing an army officer near Brompton Barracks in Gillingham, Kent.
The incident occurred at around 5:55 pm on Tuesday in Sally Port Gardens, close to the headquarters of the 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.
Esan, 24, was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was seen arriving at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Police reported that the victim, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton, was attacked and the suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle. Authorities managed to arrest Esan on Mooring Road in Rochester at around 6:30 pm, shortly after the incident.
Kent Police confirmed that the victim, who is in his 40s, was airlifted to a hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
