President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and pledged to review the national minimum wage law every three years.
This decision followed a meeting with the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, confirmed the news on X.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers with a promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years,” Onanuga stated.

Tinubu also promised to support the private sector and sub-national governments in meeting the new wage.
“President Tinubu announced the decisions at the meeting held with leaders of TUC and NLC on Thursday in Abuja, the second time the parties met in 7 days,” the statement read.
Labour leaders praised President Tinubu’s “fatherly gesture.” Additionally, the President committed to addressing the outstanding four months’ salaries owed to university unions.
