The Senate has removed Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip for making harmful comments about President Bola Ahmed.
He was replaced with Senator Tahir Monguno. This decision followed a directive from the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the request to a voice vote, and all APC senators loudly affirmed the decision. The party’s letter accused Ndume of making harmful comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“You have been making uncouth and rabid outbursts against the government before the international community, which is not only harmful to the government’s image but its effort to bring in Foreign Direct Investments,” the letter stated.

The APC leadership believes that replacing Ndume with Monguno will help prevent further damage.
“We are of the opinion that Mohammed Tahir Monguno should immediately replace Senator Ali Ndume, who is bent on bringing down the country as the majority whip of the Senate,” the letter continued.
Besides losing his position as Chief Whip, Ndume was also removed as Vice-Chairman of the Appropriation Committee. Senate President Akpabio announced Ndume’s new role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism.
Additionally, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire from Ondo Central was named the new Chair of the Judiciary and Legal Matters Committee, replacing Monguno.
This is not the first time Ndume has faced such action. In January 2017, during the eighth Senate led by Bukola Saraki, Ndume was also removed from his position as Senate Leader.
