The Anambra State Police Command announced the recovery of three bodies from a boat mishap that claimed the lives of popular movie actor JohnPaul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, and another individual. The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday as the movie cast and crew were returning to Asaba from a location in riverine Anambra West.
Among the 12 passengers on board, police successfully rescued seven individuals while recovering the bodies of two victims, leaving three individuals still missing. In response, marine police were dispatched to search for the missing persons.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the ongoing search efforts by marine police to locate the remaining three individuals.

Ikenga said on Friday that: “Marine Police of Anambra State Command have recovered bodies of the three remaining victims of the unfortunate boat accident involving a movie cast.
“Two of the bodies were recovered yesterday (Thursday) 11th April, 2024 while the last was washed in by the tide this morning (Friday).
“All the bodies have been deposited in the hospital mortuary in Asaba while the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses has been notified of the recovery.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, seized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of safety for all water commuters, urging them to avoid behaviors that could endanger their lives and the lives of others.
CP Adeoye pledged to expedite the investigation into the tragic accident that claimed the lives of five actors. The commitment to thorough investigation emphasizes the determination of the authorities to ascertain the cause of the mishap and prevent similar incidents in the future.
