Eighty-one victims of the Saint Academy school building collapse in Jos have been discharged from hospitals. The incident, which occurred on Friday while students were taking third-term exams, resulted in over 22 deaths and 132 injuries.
Abel Izang, chairman of the medical advisory committee at Plateau Specialist Hospital, reported that 23 out of the 39 victims admitted to their facility had been discharged.
“Two others with spinal cord injuries have been referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH),” Izang added.
He noted that five patients remain hospitalized but are in stable condition.
Steve Anzaku, chief medical director of Bingham University Teaching Hospital, stated that 23 of the 55 people admitted to their hospital have also been discharged.
“Those still on admission are all in a stable condition,” Anzaku said.

Chioma Ofodille, spokesperson for Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Hospital, reported that 23 out of the 32 victims admitted to their facility had been discharged.
“The remaining nine patients are in stable condition,” Ofodille confirmed.
Additionally, Josiah Njem, chairman of the medical advisory committee at JUTH, said that six victims hospitalized there are stable.
Earlier, Governor Caleb Mutfwang ordered the closure of Saint Academy following the collapse. The government is investigating the incident to prevent future tragedies.
