NNPC Ltd. has declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s crude oil production, aiming to tackle challenges and increase the country’s oil output. The announcement was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, at the 23rd Nigeria Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition in Abuja on Tuesday.

“We have decided to stop the debate,” Kyari said. “We have declared war on the challenges affecting our crude oil production. War means war. We have the right tools. We know what to fight.”

Kyari explained that Nigeria can produce two million barrels of oil per day with existing resources if industry delays are addressed. “We will work together to improve the situation,” he said, emphasizing the need for timely action.

To overcome production obstacles, NNPC Ltd. plans to replace old pipelines and introduce a rig sharing program with partners. “We aim to keep production rigs in the country for four to five years,” Kyari stated.

He also called for industry-wide collaboration to reduce production costs and meet production targets. “We need to work together to boost production and invest in gas infrastructure,” he said.

Kyari highlighted ongoing efforts to support the Presidential CNG drive, noting that 12 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations will open in Lagos and Abuja this Thursday.

The conference also featured speeches from key figures, including OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais and Nigerian Ministers of Petroleum Resources Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo.

NNPC Ltd. is the principal sponsor of this year’s NOG Energy Week, which focuses on showcasing opportunities, driving investment, and meeting energy demands.
