The Nigerian Army has promoted Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the rank of Lieutenant. Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered the promotion.
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) announced this on X.com on Wednesday. During the decoration ceremony on June 26, 2024, at the NDA Officer’s Mess and Golf Club, NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai praised Lt. Owowoh’s exceptional performance.

He noted that her excellence as a cadet earned her the distinction of being the first female Nigerian trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK and her promotion to Lieutenant.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, and family members.
Lt. Owowoh, 24, made history in April when she graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, becoming the first Nigerian female officer to do so. She promises to use her achievement to inspire change.
