President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, October 1, to mark the country’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the speech will be aired at 7 a.m.
“All television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are urged to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast,” the statement read.

In his first Independence Day address in 2023, Tinubu spoke about economic reforms, the removal of fuel subsidy, and renewed efforts to fight insecurity. His 2024 message urged Nigerians to be patient, promising that the sacrifices demanded by reforms would bring long-term benefits.
This year, the President is expected to highlight progress in economic recovery, security operations, and infrastructure projects, while reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since marked the date with presidential speeches, official ceremonies, and parades.
