Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service have arrested a man who tried to smuggle drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Njimogu Ikedi, was caught around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday while attempting to visit an inmate.
Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Adamu Duza, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. He said officers found the drugs hidden in the suspect’s clothing.
“During a routine security search, items believed to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive substances were discovered concealed inside his boxer shorts, which were worn in the manner of a diaper,” Duza explained.

The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, ordered that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Jen also warned visitors against smuggling drugs into prisons.
“Visitors with ulterior motives should desist from such acts as their machinations will be uncovered by my eagle-eyed personnel,” he said.
He further appealed for public support in reforming inmates.
“I call on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian Correctional Service in its efforts towards reforming and rehabilitating offenders so as to foster public safety,” he added.
This arrest comes a year after a similar case, when a woman named Precious Yusuf was caught in July 2024 for attempting to smuggle drugs into the same facility.
