Police in Kaduna State have arrested a man carrying over ₦25 million in cash for allegedly planning to buy votes during Saturday’s bye-election in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.
DSP Mansir Hassan, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, said the suspect, Shehu Patangi, was picked up early Saturday at a popular hotel on Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.
He was allegedly coordinating the distribution of money to influence voters before the polls.
“During the operation, officers recovered a total cash amount of ₦25,963,000 suspected to be earmarked to induce voters to compromise the electoral process,” the police statement said.

The suspect reportedly confessed during questioning and asked for mercy.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, thanked other security agencies for their cooperation and warned that anyone caught trying to disrupt the election would face severe punishment.
“No matter your status, if you attempt to undermine the electoral process, you will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The Commissioner also assured voters of security throughout the election period and urged residents to come out and vote peacefully without fear of intimidation.
