The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians about the illegal production and sale of unregistered B-GAG mist pot CIT syrup. This warning was issued by NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in a public notice released on Sunday in Abuja.
NAFDAC discovered that a company named Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises has been producing and selling the unregistered syrup. The product, which comes in a pet bottle, was found during a surveillance operation by NAFDAC officers in Maiduguri, Borno, and Keffi, Nasarawa States.
Prof. Adeyeye highlighted that the syrup does not have a NAFDAC registration number and features a misleading label.
“Illegal marketing of medicines or counterfeit medicines poses a significant risk to public health,” she stated.
She emphasized that products without proper regulatory approval cannot guarantee safety, quality, and efficacy.
The fake product has a batch number of 0070, a manufacturing date of February 1, 2024, and an expiration date of February 1, 2027. The address of the manufacturer is listed as No. 883/884 Western Bypass Ring Road, Kumbosto Local Government, Kano State.

In response to this discovery, NAFDAC has instructed its Zonal Directors and State Coordinators to carry out surveillance operations to remove the illegal products from the market.
Prof. Adeyeye advised consumers and caregivers to avoid using the unregistered syrup and to only purchase medical products from authorized and licensed suppliers.
“Check the authenticity and physical condition of products before buying,” she urged.
NAFDAC also encourages “healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicious activities related to the sale of substandard or falsified medicines. Reports can be made to the nearest NAFDAC office, or through their hotline at 0800-162-3322, or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.”
Prof. Adeyeye also mentioned that “NAFDAC has e-reporting platforms available on their website (www.nafdac.gov.ng), the Med-safety application (available for download on Android and IOS stores), or via email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.”
Information about the unregistered product will also be shared on the World Health Organization’s Global Surveillance and Monitoring System.
