Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his desire to continue acting until he is 90 years old. The 62-year-old actor revealed his ambition in a preview of an upcoming episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.
Kanayo shared his concerns about the current state of Nollywood, particularly criticizing what he sees as an “influx of untalented women” into the industry. He emphasized that acting should come naturally and not be learned on the job. “Many girls are desperate to act. You don’t come to Nollywood to learn how to act. Acting is natural. If it’s not in you, go and sell crayfish,” Kanayo asserted.

The actor did not shy away from addressing other issues plaguing the industry, such as drug abuse and homosexuality. “Are you aware most artistes are on drugs?” he asked, calling for a cleanup of the industry. He also referred to “unnatural” behaviors, specifically mentioning homosexuality, which he said is present in Nollywood.
Kanayo expressed his hope for a future where he can continue his craft well into old age. “I want a situation where at 70, 75, 80, 90, I will still be acting,” he said.
This is not the first time Kanayo has spoken out about challenges within Nollywood. Last year, he criticized some individuals for joining the industry to “sell sex” and warned against the movie industry becoming a platform for those involved in the sex trade and homosexuality.
In a recent move to pass on his legacy, Kanayo introduced his first son, Clinton, to filmmaking. This step indicates his desire to ensure the continuation of his influence in the industry through the next generation.
