Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has prohibited all religious centers from blocking roads. This measure is part of his effort to ensure better traffic flow and compliance with building regulations.

In letters dated June 13, 2024, signed by the General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), Hart Bankat, the government emphasized the need for religious centers to provide building approvals issued by the JMDB or face penalties.

The letters were addressed to the state chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI). The decision is part of the implementation of Executive Order 003, signed by Governor Mutfwang on March 1, 2024, to control building and vehicular traffic.

“Following the Executive Order 003 of the Governor of Plateau State, Bar Caleb Mutfwang, signed on March 1, 2024, for the control of building and vehicular traffic, I convey the ban of blockage of access roads and advise that all worship centers should provide appropriate parking spaces off the main roads during worship for their worshippers,” the letter stated.

The government is also requiring all worship centers to present their building approvals from the JMDB to avoid penalties.

“The government solicits the help of spiritual leaders to advise their members to be law-abiding citizens and comply with the laid down laws,” the letter added.

This move aims to improve traffic flow and ensure safety around worship centers in Plateau State.
