Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦25 million to Dominican Sisters’ College, Abatete, in Anambra State.
Obi made the donation on Sunday while laying the foundation for a new boys’ hostel at the school. He shared the update in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Today (Sunday), I laid the foundation of the boys’ hostel and continued my commitment to the school by donating ₦25 million,” he wrote.
The school, run by the Dominican Sisters of the Sienna congregation, already has a girls’ hostel built during Obi’s time as governor. He said the female hostel was built to give young girls a safe and comfortable place to learn.

Obi said he believes that education is the best way to build a better society and reduce poverty.
“Education remains the most productive investment and foundation of progress which any country can make,” he stated.
He also stressed the importance of supporting schools, hospitals, and efforts to reduce poverty.
“We must continue to support our health and educational institutions and poverty alleviation if we are to build a strong and sustainable nation for our future leaders,” he added.
This donation is part of a series of recent support Obi has given to educational institutions. Just three days earlier, he and his former classmates donated ₦50 million to Christ the King College, Onitsha, their alma mater.
About a week ago, he also gave ₦15 million to the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu State. In the same period, he donated ₦20 million to the University of Calabar to help the Faculty of Dentistry tackle equipment shortages.
Obi continues to urge well-meaning Nigerians to invest in education as a way to secure the nation’s future.
