The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspects connected to the killing of an officer from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo town.
The officer, known simply as Jide, was shot dead on Tuesday during a drug raid by NDLEA operatives at a building in the Itanla area, where hard drugs were allegedly stored.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday. He said the police also recovered a single-barrelled gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
The statement read, “The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a significant breakthrough in connection with the tragic killing of an operative of the NDLEA, who was gunned down in the line of duty.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives were swiftly mobilised to the scene. Through a prompt and coordinated response, four suspects were arrested.”

Ayanlade added that the investigation is still ongoing and promised more updates soon.
He also assured the public of the police command’s strong commitment to safety and law enforcement.
“We will continue to work with other security agencies to maintain peace and order in Ondo State,” he said.
The killing has raised concerns about the dangers faced by drug enforcement officers in the line of duty.
