The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Femi Onayemi for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in the Obada-Oko area of the state. The incident was confirmed by Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state command.
According to a police source, the girl’s parents had hired Onayemi in 2023 to tutor her at their home. On June 9, 2024, Onayemi reportedly scaled the fence of the family’s home to gain access to the girl’s room and commit the crime.
The parents of the victim were shocked and immediately reported the incident to the police. “The parents of the girl approached our division at Obada Oko on June 12, 2024, to report the incident,” said Odutola.
She further explained that the police acted swiftly upon receiving the report. “Our men swung into action immediately after the matter was reported, and the suspect was arrested,” she added.
The police spokesperson also revealed that Onayemi was known to the family and attended the same church as the victim. “The suspect was also believed to be attending the same church that the survivor attends every Sunday. He confessed to the crime after we arrested him,” Odutola stated.
The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting the need for vigilance even in trusted environments. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
This arrest underscores the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to addressing and combating sexual violence in the community.
