The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has called for stronger and more determined efforts to combat economic and financial crimes. He made this appeal in Abuja on Sunday, June 16, 2024, in his Goodwill Message to Muslims celebrating Eid-al-Kabir.
Olukoyede expressed his joy for the nation during this significant festival and emphasized that the lessons of Eid-al-Kabir should inspire greater commitment to fighting corruption.
Olukoyede stated, “The lessons of forbearance, sacrifice, faith, and hope in Almighty Allah which Eid teaches should imbue in us a fresh desire to please God and serve our nation without corrupt practices. We should renew our efforts towards fighting all forms of economic and financial crimes.”
The EFCC Chairman is confident that Nigeria can defeat corruption with the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in the anti-corruption movement. He reiterated his belief that Nigerians are not inherently corrupt and affirmed that the nation is capable of overcoming corruption and achieving peace, love, and progress.
“It is obvious that we can attain peace, love, progress, and unity of purpose for a Nigeria free of corruption and unsavoury practices. Let’s keep building. Let’s keep attacking every threat to our progress. Let’s keep fighting economic and financial crimes together,” Olukoyede urged.
He emphasized that with the support of every stakeholder in the anti-corruption corridors, corruption can be fought to a stand still. He noted that Nigerians are not inherently corrupt and nothing fundamentally wrong with us.
