Nollywood Actress, Chinwe Splendor
Nollywood actress Chinwe Splendor has revealed that her alma mater has demanded the return of her academic certificate following her public confession about engaging in sexual activities with lecturers to secure good grades.
In a video posted on Instagram, Splendor expressed her distress over the university’s ultimatum. “The university I attended sent me an email to return my certificate within 48 hours. I want to ask, ‘is this right’? That certificate, I worked hard for it, so why should I return it?” she questioned. “If that is the case, I know many of my coursemates that should return their certificates as well. I am going through a lot.”
Splendor’s predicament follows an earlier interview on the YouTube channel ‘Yan Konnect Factory,’ where she admitted to resorting to sex-for-grades due to financial struggles. “As a result of trying to make ends meet, I had to go to the ‘street’ to fend for myself, which resulted in my missing classes,” she confessed. “I later devised a way to ensure good grades by sleeping with my lecturers. Even though I did not attend lectures in a particular year, I was still able to get good grades in all my courses.”
The university’s response has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some commenters supported the institution’s decision, emphasizing the need for accountability and integrity.
One user, Ihenenancy, wrote, “You talk too much for a lady. It is obvious you didn’t go to school, so return it (certificate) with immediate effect. Common sense is far from you.”
Another commenter, Chipsys_oven, added, “Yes, please return it, and the school should investigate lecturers who sleep with students in exchange for good grades.”
The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about academic integrity and the prevalence of sex-for-marks scandals in educational institutions. The university has yet to publicly address the issue beyond the email sent to Splendor, but the actress’s revelations and the subsequent fallout underscore the need for stringent measures to combat such unethical practices.
