Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as CEO of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after two years in the role. She announced her resignation in a post on X on Wednesday.
Yaccarino did not give a specific reason for leaving but said the company was starting “a new chapter” following its recent takeover by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏. I’m immensely grateful to [Elon Musk] for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App,” Yaccarino wrote.
She praised her team’s efforts in making the platform safer and winning back advertisers’ trust.
“I’m incredibly proud of the X team. The historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable. We prioritised the safety of our users, especially children, and restored advertiser confidence,” she said.

Yaccarino also highlighted key innovations under her leadership, including Community Notes and the upcoming feature called X Money.
She said the platform was now “truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal.”
Elon Musk, who owns X and also leads Tesla and SpaceX, appointed Yaccarino as CEO in May 2023 after buying the platform for $44 billion. She officially began her role in June 2023, replacing Musk, who had been acting CEO temporarily.
Before joining X, Yaccarino worked as an advertising executive at NBC Universal.
As X moves forward under Musk’s xAI, Yaccarino said, “The best is yet to come.”
