Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, also known as CharlyBoy, has asked Nigerians to support ailing Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze, who is battling prostate cancer.
CharlyBoy made the appeal in Abuja on Wednesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“Tom Njemanze, the legendary actor you watched in Issakaba and Osuofia in London, is in a hospital bed fighting for his life,” CharlyBoy said.
He explained that the veteran actor urgently needs surgery which will cost millions of naira.
“Prostate complications are draining him, and he needs urgent surgery that costs millions. How many more legends must we lose before we start showing up for our own?” he asked.
Njemanze had earlier shared a video online, where he revealed he was undergoing treatment and needed financial help to continue.

CharlyBoy urged Nigerians to act fast and not wait until it’s too late.
“This isn’t just about Tom. It’s about the value we place on those who gave us joy, laughter, and unforgettable stories. The same men we cheered on screen are left to suffer in silence when the curtain falls. But not this time. Not on our watch,” he said.
He added, “I, Area Fada, and the CharlyBoy Foundation are calling on all well-meaning Nigerians, fans, and colleagues—let’s rise for Tom. Let’s not wait for RIP hashtags. Let’s save him while we still can. Donate whatever you can. Nothing is too small.”
CharlyBoy, who recently survived prostate cancer himself, is also leading a campaign to educate Nigerian men about the disease. Through his foundation, he is promoting regular screening and early treatment.
“Many men are dying in silence because they don’t talk about their prostate issues,” he said.
