A landlord, Benjamin Apeh, tragically died after collapsing during a heated argument with his tenant over unpaid rent, according to a statement from the Ogun State Police Command.
SP Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer for the police in Ogun, reported that the incident occurred on Sunday at Arigbabu Village in the Sotubo area of Sagamu local government. The police received the report on Monday at 5:00 p.m. from the deceased’s daughter, Precious Apeh.
According to the police spokesperson, Precious Apeh informed them that her father had first argued with the tenant on Saturday evening around 7:20 p.m. over unpaid rent. The argument escalated again on Sunday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., during which the tenant allegedly threatened to kill Benjamin Apeh.
“During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” said Odutola.
The tenant fled the scene immediately after the incident, but the police are actively working to apprehend the suspect.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu.
