President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has brought peace between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The peace deal was reached after a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Sources at Aso Rock said the meeting came after earlier talks between Wike, Fubara, and the lawmakers.
Wike and Fubara had been fighting over control of Rivers State, a conflict that also involved the State House of Assembly. The situation worsened after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the lawmakers, leading to threats of impeachment against Governor Fubara.

In March, President Tinubu took a drastic step by declaring a state of emergency in Rivers. He suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected lawmakers in the state. He also appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the state’s administrator.
However, it appears that the warring parties have now settled their differences.
A top source said, “From the body language after the meeting with the President, I can tell you that they—Wike, Fubara, and the lawmakers—have resolved their differences.”
The source added, “You know before now, the President had told them to sort out their problems. I believe they have done that. This visit might just be to thank the President for his efforts in ending the crisis.”
The resolution brings relief to Rivers residents and observers who had feared the political battle could harm the state’s development and peace.
