Police in Plateau State have arrested 22 people linked to the killing of 12 wedding guests in Mangu Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, announced the arrests on Saturday in a statement shared with reporters.
According to the police, the victims were travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Qua’an Pan LGA for a wedding when they lost their way and entered Mangun village on the night of June 20, 2025. A mob attacked their bus, set it on fire, and killed several people.
“On June 20th, 2025, at about 9:47 p.m., the Plateau State Police Command received credible intelligence revealing that a bus carrying some passengers from Zaria, Kaduna State, was attacked by an angry mob in Mangun Village,” the statement said.
Police said they quickly responded. Officers and other security agents rushed to the scene, rescued 21 people, and took the injured to the hospital.
“Our men, in collaboration with other security agencies, quickly dispersed the mob and rescued twenty-one victims. Seven were injured and taken to the hospital, while 14 others were rescued unhurt,” Alfred said.

Investigators confirmed that the travellers were not from the area but had taken a wrong turn while heading to a wedding.
“The vehicle was illegally stopped by the mob and set ablaze. As a result, some passengers lost their lives,” the police explained.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, visited the scene Saturday morning with other top officers. He ordered a deeper investigation and deployed more police units to prevent more violence.
“The CP has deployed men from the State Intelligence Department and State CID to Mangu for intelligence gathering and investigation,” the statement said. “Tactical teams and other operational units have also been sent to the area to support the effort.”
The police have warned against revenge attacks and urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.
“We are committed to ensuring justice,” Alfred said. “We ask the public to support the police and avoid taking the law into their hands.”
