Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has strongly condemned the killing of eight travellers in Mangu Local Government Area of the state. He described the attack as a criminal act and urged residents to remain calm.
The incident happened on Friday when suspected hoodlums attacked a group of 31 travellers, including women and children, who were on their way from Zaria to Qua’an Pan for a wedding. Eight people were killed, while others were injured.
Governor Mutfwang visited the scene of the attack on Saturday and met with survivors who are receiving treatment at the Mangu General Hospital. He promised to pay all their medical bills.
“This is not something we are happy with. It is an act of criminality that we will not tolerate. I have reached out to my brother, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and the Emir of Zazzau to inform them of this unfortunate incident,” the governor said.
He also sent his condolences to the families of the victims and said a government delegation would visit both the affected families and the Kaduna State Government.

Governor Mutfwang called on the youth in Plateau to be calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“If you find strangers in your community, report them to the authorities instead of attacking. Let’s avoid cases of mistaken identity. It is time to be wise and act responsibly,” he advised.
He praised the youth leader of Mangu and the security agencies for their quick response, which helped save the lives of some of the travellers.
“I want to assure Nigerians that Plateau remains a peaceful home for all, no matter their ethnicity or religion,” Mutfwang added.
Also speaking, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, said 22 suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack. He said police officers were still searching the area to find others involved in the mob action.
