Aliyu Audu, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has resigned from his position.
Audu announced his resignation in a letter dated June 8, 2025. He submitted the letter through the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In the letter, Audu said he could not be part of any effort to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
“Though I do not align with the PDP, I refuse to be used directly or indirectly as an instrument to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state. That would be a betrayal of both divine favour and democratic principle.” he wrote.
He said true democracy allows for different ideas and parties to exist. “If we now begin to silence or crush opposition simply because we have the upper hand, then we are no different from the very system we once criticised under Obasanjo in 2003,” he warned.
Audu added, “Let us build a Nigeria where our strength lies not in uniformity, but in the maturity to compete with ideas, vision, and integrity.”

Even though he resigned, Audu said he still supports President Tinubu and his economic reforms.
“I will continue to support our government in power, not just because I helped bring it, but also because I believe in the success recorded in the area of economic reforms,” he stated.
However, he expressed concern over what he called an “unholy alliance” between President Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike, saying it goes against his political beliefs.
Audu ended his letter on a light note: “That does not mean our gbas gbos will seize o. We still here for the attacks and counterattacks. Oya Agbadorians over to you.”
His resignation has sparked conversation online, with many praising his boldness while others questioned his timing.
