Over 180 victims of recent violent attacks in Plateau State have received free medical care, thanks to a humanitarian outreach by women doctors and pharmacists.
The outreach, organized by the Plateau State branches of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) and the Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPs), took place in Kimakpa community, Bassa Local Government Area.
Dr. Nana Emeribe, President of MWAN Plateau State, told The PUNCH that the medical team treated 182 adults and dewormed more than 120 children aged between one and ten.
Emeribe said, “We are here in our numbers to offer specialist care and services to victims of the recent attacks on the Kimakpa community. So far, we’ve treated over 182 adult patients and dewormed more than 120 children. We have also distributed over 200 sanitary pads to young girls and women of reproductive age.”
Dr. Emeribe added that the team also gave out drugs for various illnesses and provided food and clothing to affected families.
She expressed sadness over the continued attacks in rural areas and called on the government to improve healthcare services and end the violence.
“It is our hope that such gestures will continue until lasting peace and development return to these communities,” she said.

Dr. Lydia Ior, Chairperson of ALPs in the state, praised the partnership between her group and MWAN. She said the collaboration helped them make a greater impact in the community.
She also sent her condolences to the people of Kimakpa and prayed for peace to return to Bassa and Plateau State as a whole.
The outreach focused on survivors of last month’s deadly attacks in Kimakpa and Zike communities, where gunmen killed 51 people, injured many others, and destroyed homes and property.
